A visual journey through cities and dancers — observed in black and white, one camera, one idea.

Behind the lens
I spent fifteen years as a visual effects artist, compositing light for films — from Rome to Wellington, through Weta. Somewhere along the way I started photographing dancers, and never stopped.
The black and white isn't a filter: most of this archive is shot on a Leica M11 Monochrom, a camera that only sees in tones. I photograph dancers the way you would light a sculpture — one clean line, one strong side, everything else allowed to fall away.
From the studios of Wellington to the streets of Tokyo, the squares of Rome to the trams of Hong Kong — the work follows one idea.
